The former 2nd VP of the Southern Baptist Convention, Wiley Drake, is back and he has 219 Democrats on his imprecatory prayer list.
From The Daily Beast:
Orange Country Pastor Wiley Drake fired off an email to his supporters this morning, telling them that all 219 Democrats have been placed on the “imprecatory prayer list.” “We’ll remember in November and pray Psalms 109 while waiting,” he urged, before listing each offending congressman by name in “Satan’s domain in Washington D.C.”
It would be nice to see Southern Baptists reject hate this summer and refuse to seat Wiley Drake as a messenger to the annual Southern Baptist Convention.
That might be wishful thinking.
After all, Wiley Drake’s rhetoric is not much more extreme than the accepted rhetoric of a Southern Baptist pastor at the popular blog, SBC Today. In a post titled A Day of Mourning for our Nation, Tennessee pastor David Worley expresses his fear of upcoming religious persecution by the government. The Rev. Worley compares the state of our nation in the aftermath of this health care legislation to “Nazi Germany, Communist USSR, Communist Cuba, and Iraq under Saddam.”
Worley’s rant reaches a fever-pitch with this concluding comment:
Ask the Jews from Germany 80 years ago what they think about the govt. gaining more control over your life. Ask the Pastors that ended up in Soviet prisons what they think about the GOVT. getting more control over people. Ask the Kurds. Ask the Cubans in Miami
I don’t think that Wiley and Worley are representative of most Southern Baptists. For the sake of the Baptist brand, it would be nice to see more Southern Baptist leaders speak out against the extremism and extreme rhetoric in their midst.

I don’t think there is anyway to refuse to seat him as a messenger since the choosing of the messengers is wholly up to the churches they are members of. I’m assuming Mr. Drake’s church is too closed off to the Bible and Holy Spirit to realize he should have been excommunicated long ago, so it appears there’s nothing to do but try to ignore him.
PS: It’s really funny that your total posts are at 666 now.
Messengers to the SBC can refuse to seat messengers from a specific church. It’s been done before. Drake’s congregation is quite tiny. I would guess that Wiley and maybe his wife are the only messengers sent from that church each year.
Generally, on the rare occasions that messengers from specific churches are refused seating, it is because of something related to the definition of their status as a “cooperating” Southern Baptist church, rather than over some political issue, or this kind of insanity. It would be hard for someone to make the case that advocating for “imprecatory prayer,” regardless of how silly, embarassing, or heretical it might be, is a condition related to “cooperation” with the SBC.
Worley: Ask the Jews from Germany ….
Anne: Americans passed healthcare today.
Marie: No; it can’t be!
Frank: I can’t imagine anything worse. Boy, do we have it good.
What a load of crap the SBC is and all these religious creeps who claim to be right at “God’s right hand”. Must be nice to have a tax-free job and be able to use it to publicly “pray” for someone to die. Isn’t this what Osama Bin Ladin did before 9/11? Why don’t Wiley get charged at least with harassment for making comments on Murtha’s family? This is why I hate religion-too many idiots, hypocrites and people who belong in an asylum, not preaching!

Excuse me, that should read that I don’t hate religion per se. What I hate is American ORGANIZED religion that allows stuff like this to go unpunished. Too many churches in my area have become infomercial locations for the GOP not GOD!
bapticus hereticus, I love your comment!
I must ask myself and you:
Which is less biblical? Invoking imprecatory prayer or ordaining church leaders who are openly practicing homosexuals?
We probably shouldn’t be doing either.
I was reading just the other day that T.B. Maston strongly believed that ordination was not biblical.
Maybe that’s the answer!
