The member of the United States House of Representatives who shouted “baby-killer” while Rep. Bart Stupak was speaking has unveiled himself. He is Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R) of Texas’ 19th congressional district which includes Abilene and Lubbock. Neugebauer is a member of First Baptist Church Lubbock, Texas – a congregation affiliated and active in the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
Here is the statement released by Rep. Randy Neugebauer:
“In the heat and emotion of the debate, I exclaimed the phrase ‘It’s a baby killer’ in reference to the agreement reached by the Democratic leadership,” Neugebauer said in the statement. “While I remain heartbroken over the passage of this bill and the tragic consequences it will have for the unborn, I deeply regret that my actions were mistakenly interpreted as a direct reference to Congressman Stupak himself.”
“I have apologized to Mr. Stupak and also apologize to my colleagues for the manner in which I expressed my disappointment about the bill. The House Chamber is a place of decorum and respect. The timing and tone of my comment last night was inappropriate.”
I guess one can take Neugebauer at his word that the “It’s a” preceded “Baby-Killer”
It wouldn’t be the first time though that an angry “pro-lifer” hurled “baby-killer” at someone whom they disagreed with…

Seems plausible to me; I will give him the benefit of the doubt. With Stupak, passionate pro-lifer, before him, he might have been thinking (incorrectly, however), “But, Bart, it’s a baby killer.” Nonetheless, a sixty-year old man and governmental leader needs to possess better public, self-monitoring skills. If he has such, is it too much to expect that they be manifested? The apology, however, would have greater appeal if it were given last evening, instaed.
b h,
Why is it being accepted by you and others at face value that the bill won’t fund abortions? If Stupak and ten of the other pro-life Dems were only satisfied when promised the executive order, then why do you assert that the bill is innocent?
(There were other pro-life Dems who voted “no”.)
Objectors who don’t believe the executive order will stand up against passed law have every reason to still assert, “It’s a baby killer!”
