According to the AP News Story, his church has 14 people in it. He’s hardly representative of mainstream Baptists.
Please don’t burn the Bible, it is God’s word. This is terribly wrong.
gamountainman: Weird, really weird. The fundamentalist wingnuts have finally gone off the deep end.
bapticus hereticus: I agree concerning the weirdness of this behavior, but the notion of these people going off the deep-end, in one sense, does not quite capture it for me; that is, the wingnuts of conservative life these days are the current, representative symbols of conservative life. As Moyers once remarked the margin (i.e., the deep-end) on the right has become its center. The left, too, has its deep-end, but thankfully, the left is a bit better with its “self”-monitoring skills.
Somehow, the name of the church, Amazing Grace Baptist Church, doesn’t quite seem to fit.
Yes the service is weird but don’t forget they all bring their own snakes for the snake handling service. so…..
